My question is I bought a fish from a friend within a week I saw Ich.

Next I put the Fish in a QT and went through that wonderful phase of treating the fish 6 weeks later. the fish is treated and I have not yet moved the fish back.

The problem is that I move two fish from my 90 gallon Reef to my 256 Reef two days ago and now they both have Ich.

Note that my 90 gallon has never had Ich that I know of my fish in my 90 gallon has never had Ich and I have never had problems with it until the fish from a friend I bought.

Question now is can a Tank have ICH?

What should I do?

Wow. I sure hope you don't lose the entire tank. With friends like that, you don't need enemies huh? I'd say start both tanks on hypo and pray. Maybe get a high power UV filter like 30-40 watts and run it for awhile.

If you had any fish in your DT and it had Ich, so does your DT. You need to run your DT fishless for 9 weeks to clear up the Ich. Do not run any copper or any chemicals in your DT as it will kill your inverts and corals. All of your fish need to be treated in a QT for at least 6 weeks.

i would put all ur fish from both tanks into qt and treat for ich, leave both tanks fishless for 9 weeks/

Let me get this right.

265 gallon - First fish got Ich, next two fish got Ich.
90 gallon - Two fish taken out then put in 265 gallon developed Ich in 265, but the 99 itself never had Ich.
No fish, rock or equipment ever went FROM the 265 TO the 90.

If all the above is right, then your 265 HAS Ich, the 90 HAS NO ich. You need to treat all fish that ever went into the 265, and need to keep the 265 fallow for at least 6 weeks.

If any one of the above is not right, then you have Ich in both tanks.

Ich is a parasite. A tank itself may have ich "in it" now but the tank itself doesn't have ich. A fish or water containing ich was introduced into your tank and that is what has the ich. Fortunately, ich cannot survive without a host for very long. If you remove and treat the hosts (all fish), the ich will die during that 9 week window, every bit of it.

Palting you are 100% right nothing from the the 265 ever went into the 90.
Only fish from the 90 went into the 265.

The 90 has been running for a long time no problems.

The fish with ich was never put into the 90.
The fish from a friend was put into the 265.
I thought it was treated and well guess not.

I now realized that yes I took the fish out and treated it in a QT tank but did not wait the 9 weeks for my DT and now the fish I moved into the 265 from the 90 well are now going to die.

Getting fish out of a 265 reef with 250lbs of rock well not easy.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP.
I will now get ALL the fish out.
and let it run without fish for 3 months to be safe with a really big UV.

I would suggest the uv sterilizer which you mentioned. I have ran one for years and never had an ich outbreak. Good Luck.

Buy a fish trap from Aqua Medic. It works on the most sly fish and is well worth the money. I caught a couple of my fish with the 2 liter bottle trick but I had a couple that wouldn't get close to it. The fish trap caught them in a couple of hours.
