gonna do a sump in the basement with display upstairs. i dont want to deal with an external pump so will a mag 24 be enough or what should i go with. 125g with dual overflows. sump is 110g tote.

I've never seen one that big, but it sounds like the right ballpark. The specs at dannermfg.com say 1100 gph @10 feet of head. Assume you will get 25% less, your turnover will be 7+ times tank volume per hour. Head depends on vertical distance between tank waterline and sump waterline.

According to MD it is both 237 and 265 watts! A concern with all submersibles is none of the heat is lost to the air. That means it will be equivalent to a 237+ watt heater running 24/7.

Also keep in mind the power used by the pump will increase with head height as well so you may be pushing closer to 300+ watts.

That's all fine, but want to know if it will push the water

I'm using a Mag 9 in my basement. 8' of vertical and have it dialed it back to about 300-400gph. 112g display. I let the Vortechs do the circulating in the display.

Did you go to the dannermfg.com site? They tell you how much water it will push against how much head pressure. http://www.dannermfg.com/Store/Products/Danner/PID-02740.aspx
Those figures will not include elbows or restrictions that will surely be in your system. There is a sticky somewhere if you want to attempt to calculate it ahead of time.

I don't know if amperage goes up against higher head pressure or down. I suppose I could hook a pump up to a killawatt meter and restrict the flow to find out.

I use a mag 24 on my 110 lifting around 13'. It works well. Every elbo adds roughly 1' of head hight so keep your elbos to a minimum.

Keep in mind to get that flow as shown in their head loss chart, you will need to run 1-1/2" plumbing. If you can tell me the total height and any fittings and pipe diameter, I can tell you a lot better what you can expect from the Mag24.

I run a Mag 24 13 feet ALMOST straight up from the basement. I have it dialed back a smidge, just because I am still trying to dial in by Herbie overlfow. When I put my hand over the output from the Mag 24 and then put my hand over on of my Tunze 6055's I can't really tell the difference, except the Tunze is a much larger current as opposed to the stream coming out of the return. I have it on a 90 standard gallon. Mine sits in a 40 breeder. It does seem to be a loud pump, which doesn't bother me since it is in the basement, so I just purchased a silicon trivett in the kitchen section of Bed Bath and Beyond and it helped a ton! People don't seem too high on the Mag pumps on RC, but I don't have any problem with mine.
