Using this kit, it turns from the redish-pink to dark purple, but it doesn't ever seem to match the bluish color on the card no matter how much more reactant I use. Does anybody know if the test is done as soon as it turns this dark purple or does it actually turn a blue to match the card?

Thanks in advance.

Mine turns blue. May take 4 or 5 drops after purple to get a true blue. If you wait to long it will turn back to purple.

That's for the video, I'll have to wait until I get home to watch it. Youtube is blocked at work.

Mine never really seems to turn blue, just darker purple.

Well, is it possible it could just be a color perception / defficiency issue. It occurs much more commonly in males.. If you're male. :) Just a thought.. Not something we think about often... I have a tough time distinguishing yellows from green on the phosphate test. And a tough time distinguishing black from dark purple and dark blue in clothing.

Yes, I'm male. I believe that is an issue with some of the tests. I've had to ask my wife to check the colors.

I definitely see it go blue in the video. I'll have to try it again, maybe stiring it quicker will work. Thanks.

Some kits might require more time for the reaction to complete when the solution turns purple. For the old IO calcium test, for example, I had to wait about a minute after the solution turned purple before continuing the titration to get an accurate result. I haven't used the Red Sea Mg kit, so I don't know whether this applies, though.
