I bought a used 90g back in late summer and not until i brought home and notice hairline scratches everywhere. Long story short i painted it black but now I have a brand new 180g coming in about 12 days and now debating painting blue and not sure what to do. I like the black as it doesn't seem to take away or wash out other colours. Just thought I'd ask for some opinions. Start the tank Oct8 and have coraline growing nicely on about 100 lbs of Marco rock and maybe 5-10 lbs of bought live rock. Can't wait to get iit into a clear tank! Thanks great site:confused:

I did a deep purple on the back of my 90 and love it!

It's really a personal preference. Blue gives you the illusion of a larger tank than you actually have type of look, a little more 'natural', but black really helps showcase the colors of the reef and makes them stand out even more. I went with black for mine. Plus against black, when you're standing back, your pumps, overflow box, and returns (presuming you're using black returns) don't stand out nearly as much.

I have done both in the past. I like black better. Colors of fish and coral really stand out against the black background, and equipment/overflows blend in better.

I like dark blue, but my overflow is hidden well by large rocks. If it's going to be visible then black will keep it from standing out as an eyesore.
