Ok. Just got done setting up my first sw tank. A 120 with whim 1262, reef octopus xs120, 2 hydro 1400 gal. Power heads, 2x 150 watt heaters and 6x54 watt t5s. Wife just said she was nervous to see the electric bill. What should I expect? How much is the bill going up?

Check your electric bill, it shows rate, but use a general 12 cents per 1000 watt hours, your light are 300 watts and running 10 hours, so 3000 watts, divided by 1000 watt hours per 12 cents - so 36 cents per day, Other stuff maybe 12 more cents per day, so you have 48 cents per day or about $15 per month. Math is not precise, but gives you a basic idea.

Forget the electric bill, its all the other stuff you will be adding over time that will hurt the deposable income. :celeb3:

Yeah. The other stuff has not been an issue. Love the fact she is not computer savy. I love eBay and PayPal.

Not computer savy?? How'd you get so lucky? Mine busts me for spending to much time or too much money. Lol.

Not sure what your elec rate is in RI but Ca it is very high somewhere around 29 cents a KWH.

Rhode island is $0.135 per kwh last I checked. Except for the heat, maybe $20 month increase a month. If you keep your house warm all the time-like 72, the heater will barely be on and cost little. I keep my house cool, 68 tops and set to 58 during the day so heat runs more.

Watts x hours divided by 1000 = kwh. Multiply kwh by .135 and that is your electric cost :)

Wow, I don't feel so bad here in Colorado at 11 cents (winter) and 17 (summer tier 2.) Remember that at least half that cost is taxes and tariffs, same as gasoline.

I'm getting a solar panel lease installed in about six weeks, I can't wait to see that meter run backwards during the day!

Yeah, my bill prior to the deregulation miss and the tier system, my bill at the highest was 135 bucks in the summer and it gets hot 103 to 113, now my lowest bill is 175 up to 400.
