View Full Version : Sump Noise

I have an eshopps 1200 with dual 1" overflows. Pipes are 1" PVC that both run down into the sump water. I set up two Gurgle Buster standpipes on the overflow bulkheads.

There is no gurgling noise from the overflow, but the sump is very loud.

There are a lot of bubbles coming out of the drain pipes and there is an intermittent "burp" that sounds like there is an air bubble being trapped and released into the sump water.

As I said both pipes end stright down into the sump water.

Any suggestions to quiet this setup? I assume this must be a problem most people face initially

Use only one of the drain lines with a gurgle buster and place a pipe in the second drain line with its end above the full siphon level of the gurgle buster. The second drain line is an emergency line. The gurgle buster set up at full siphon will not pull air down the drain line and thus eliminate the air noise.

Well at full siphon that defeats the point of the HGB as the air line is designed to allow air into the tube to prevent vortex.

But thanks for the input. I ended up going with a Herbie system which is pretty much what you described.

I have the same issue on mine if I let the pump go full throttle.
Using a ball valve after the pump you can control the flow, it's almost a micro adjust but once I got it right no more intermittent "burps" from the drain pipes. it's just a little, like 5%.
