I just got a 100 gallon tank that came with 2 24" fixtures each has 1 250w Metal Halide (currently 15k) and 2 65w Power Compact Actinic bulbs

My question is has anyone had success converting the Power compact side to LED? My fixture has the plastic shield that covers the PC bulb.

I like the shimmer the LED's give off, as well as the color/blue they give off. The power savings would be nice too!

Any ideas/links are greatly appreciated :)

I retrofitted LED's into a 48" Coralife unit to replace the PCs. My guess is that yout fixture is similar, a halide with front and rear PCs. I gutted the part of the hood that had the PCs in it and used #10 threaded aluminum rods to put in a 4" wide heat sink with 6 3W Cree LEDs. I used 4 of these to total 24 LEDs in my 48" unit.

Warning: Within a month, I had also gutted the halide portion and added another 24 Crees. In another month I added 16 more. Now I can't imagine having anything else.

Thanks it has been working very well with great coral growth since. I have a 2 x 65 watt 30" coralife fixture that I plan to so a similar build with.
