I need help with GFO and how much to use.

Do I follow Phosban instruction of 1 gram per gallon and use 200 gram for 200 Gallon total water OR should I follow BRS calculator of 3.5 cups of GFO for 200 gallon total water?

I would just use the amount that it says to use. Whichever product your using. If your using BRS i would follow their guidelines and vice versa.

I would start with about half the recommended dose, and watch the animals for any signs of trouble. Every GFO product might be different in terms of much it can adsorb, so making rules is hard.

1 gram per gallon is sort of the standard, but GFO can be safely used up to 5X this recommended dosage, but Bertoni is right, start small and work your way up. Be sure to test PO4 or silicate readings after 3 -4 days. As GFO can be used up quickly if you have high amouints of either in tank. IE if you are looking at reducing PO4 amounts in tank then test and compare both the tank water and the discharge water from the reactor. If they are equal then you need to change the medea. If the reactor discharge is still lower than the tank then the medea is still viable.

Just ordered BRS GFO HC.

Hope it would last longer and better than regular GFO.

I will start with half the recommended dose from BRS calculator.

Will also consider regenerating GFO due to the steep price.
