I finally started collecting some of the things I'll need to convert my tank to salt. While doing some browsing at the LFS I noticed they had some dry rock on hand. So I sorted through it and bought about 16lb's of the most porous rock. Now I just need a lot more but ill just get it slowly.

Question is: Should I clean this rock and with what?

I would cure it before putting into DT.

Yes, I just soak it in water, with powerheads. Then scrub it after a week or so with a stiff plastic brush. Then new water and do over, every week for about a month or so.

So there is a risk of "containamints" even if its been dry for awhile? Besides dirt and grim?

Yes. You will still have dried matter on it. Sponges, zoa's, bristle worms inside. You need to let that stuff come out out, or at least get most of it off. Otherwise you will never get your phosphates and ammonia down. A good soaking, scrub and hard spary rinse will get most of it

Great thank you. Is it best to soak it in salt water?

It does not have to be unless it's LR.
