View Full Version : Scorpaenopsis oxycephala maybe?

Picked up what I think is a Scorpaenopsis oxycephala this last week end. I know this thread is useless with out pics but of course he is hiding behind all the rock work tonight but will try to get a shot of him tomorrow. The good news is he is an eater and will take silversides from tongs. Are these guys common in the hobby? Any thing special to note?

If it is they get pretty big, 14" range. It could be a few different species, there are quite a few that look pretty similar, obviously like you said we need a photo. Not that common in the trade that I'm aware of, don't recall seeing one available in the last few years. I'll be jealous if that's what you have I've been wanting one for quite a while.

How big is it?

It looks like your camera is too close to your subject and/or you didn't tell the camera where it needed to focus.. Notice how parts of the fish behind its head are in focus, but the head is blurry.

Good head shots and a whole body shot are what's needed to try and ID the fish.

I will work on better pics was using my phone and it was not doing what I was telling it to do... Just snapped a few since he came out from the rock work.
