I just acquired a 200g shallow tank. approx 5.5'x4'x16"H. Rather unique in its dimensions and am stuck in between lighting. I love, love radiums. I love, love ATI. So because I love, love both of them equally I wanted to combine them. So here is the idea, 2-48" sunpower units angled towards center. 2-lumenmax elite 250w radiums sandwiched in between the ATI units. For a grand total of a hefty electric bill. However, I was thinking of running the radiums for 2-3 hrs to simulate peak sun. Then ATI would come on as dusk dawn..womp womp womp womp. Is this ridiculous and/or overkill or a dream? Or should I just go with one or the other? Also, wanted to know which return pump I could use for this tank that emits the least heat?

On a 16" tall tank I would use 4-150 watt Radiums with the T5's. Much better coverage and there is no need in 250 watters. Keep in mind too that the reflector is more of a spotlight and that is not a good thing when you need spread. Mixing T5 and MH is a good thing and I would do the same.

5.5'x4'x16"H
with a 4 foot wide tank go with 250's. Better/wider coverage.
