I purchased a clam a couple days ago, it's around 2" do I need to feed it. And how often and what's best. Lfs mentioned phytoplankton, but I forgot to ask how often?

no feeding clams if you feed the tank. that assumes you have strong lighting for this crocea. lfs makes $$ on phyto. ask lfs exactly how lfs would recommend feeding phyto so clam can use it. read fatherree.

Yes you need to feed the clam if it's only 2". Take a bottle or container and slip over top of the clam to create a closed bubble as well as possible. Inject some phyto into a small hole or opening and let him feed for awhile before removing the container. A clam that small can feed themselfs to some extent but it never hurts to suppliment feed at that size.

I'll add that whatever path you choose, you can monitor the health of the clam by growth. There should always be a pure white ring (croceas have a bit of a scalloped edge) along the shell under the mantle. If you see that, then the clam is healthy. These rings layer new growth upon old growth, so you'll see the rings of growth.

If it isn't growing, then it needs more light.

+1 for Moliken

I have it placed on the highest spot in my tank, it has been turning some. But it looks good so far. I also use reef fusion in my tank!

I have it on the highest rock in my tank, I'm not sure if it benefits it but I also dose my tank with reef fusion

+1 on that. I used to spot feed my clam with left over phyto when feeding my coral. Im sure that it was totally unnecessary. Shes gotten big and i never saw any ill effects from spot feeding here and there. But if you have food in the column and good light it wont be an issue.

I'd be more concerned with the lighting. I was unsuccessful keeping clams with T5's. So I switched to LED's

Thanks for the information! I'll just have to hope the t5 is sufficient
