As some of you may know, I'm setting up a basement sump under my 65 gallon. From what I have read, if I upsize the pipe diameter to 1.5" coming out of my I will get more flow, due to less friction loss. My question is, if I downsize to my 1" bulkhead, will it effectively make my return pipe a 1" diameter pipe? Further more, I was contemplating on dropping it down to 1/2" cpvc in the tank and make a manifold on the back wall with maybe 3 to 4 outlets. How bad will my flow reduce? The pump I own is a Panworld 100px pressure rated pump.

Thanks
Chad

It will choke off some of he flow once it hits the bulkhead and any smaller pipe after it. However you would have gained extra flow from less friction loss by using large pile up to it.

Thanks James. Pump should push close to 1000gph at 7.5 ft w/ 1.5" dia. I think it will be ok. Just don't want to plumb this sucker, just to have to re do it, ya know??
