I have been tossing the idea around of a nano reef tank in my bedroom. I have a 6 gallon fluval edge that is current a freshwater tank. I've had it for over 2 years now and I think it would have a dramatic statement as a saltwater tank. In regards to the filter media, what should I take out, if anything? It currently has a large sponge block, a bag of carbon and biomax ceramic rings.

I plan for this tank to be, at first, a FOWLR but may eventually try some easy corals that can survive with the current MR11 LED bulbs that I upgraded too a few months ago.

Keep the carbon only.

As long as your doing regular water changes, you could probably loose the carbon as well. The live rock will be your main filtration.

Thanks. I will debate over the fluval but the more I look at the Evolve 8, the more I think that will be my nano SW tank. Not to mention there is more room for a refug and/or protein skimmer should I find it necessary.
