So I'm planning a 225 or so mixed reef tank - I'm getting back in after just having fish for a few years.

How many folks out there use their lights for various 'zones' in the LENGTH of the tank? I.e. if you put zoas vs. SPS on one end or the other. Would that look strange?

I'm trying to have a very flexible system so that I don't have to keep buying stuff, so I'm THINKING an LED system that allows me the change up the lights without having to mix and match bulbs is what I want to do.

So I'm thinking I'd like 2 islands, one for (someday) SPS and LPS and then keep the Zoas on an island by themselves to the side with maybe (someday) a clam in the middle on the sand....

Anyone doing this or will the brightness on each end of the tank not look right?

Yeah, I know you can put SPS up top and then others on the bottom but I wondering if there's a specific reason why folks just keep doing that.
