I have 29 gal live rock tank with mushrooms and just got some zooanthids. I have a reef sun bulb 50/50 combination of 6500 K trichomatic daylight phosphor and actinic 420 phosphor. 17 watts T8
Is this lighting ok? what could I upgrade to see more color

Fluorescent fixtures with multiple bulbs are very good for their flexibility. T5s are the widely used for their intensity and efficiency. T8s are good too and much cheaper upfront. It depends also on what colors you are talking about. Different light spectrums are believed to help enhance different colors. Poke around on the search feature here in RC, with terms like "light spectrum coral color", "coral lighting", "lighting", etc. Coral color can also be significantly influenced by things like water clarity, nutrient levels, and photo period. If your water is not as clear as you would like a little carbon can fix that.
