I am looking to either build or order a custom led display for my tank. I understand the different wavelenghths but the only confusion i have is with warm white vs red led. I like my tank to be on the more blue side similiar to a raddon 20k but i would like the reds in my tank to be red.

Would i be better off putting a few extra red led instead of any warm white or do i need more whites to be able to see any reds.

Any articles or advice would be appreciated.

IME, warm white yields good color rendition of yellow and red and has enough of a peak in the red to fill photosynthesis requirements. My DIY LED fixture is 24 RB, 16 Violet, 16 cool white, and 8 warm white. I adjust them in individual color groups with dimmers to yield a 15K look, and the reds and oranges look very natural.
