I just bought a aquamaxx s-1 cal reactor and all the bells and whistles. when i got it all set up and running my ph droped like a rock Im talking from8.0 to 7.45 in one night and I got scared so i shut it down. now I cant get the ph back up to normal levels, added an air stone, opened the window still low. I want to get it back running but dont really know what the tank can withstand. can you point me in the right direction:confused:

How big of a tank? Also you need to recalibrate your ph probes, it is very unlikely your ph dropped that low.

By the time it gets that low rocks and sand start to dissolve and that will buffer it back into at least the 7.5 to 7.6 range. Maybe you've got a bad probe or an interference issue. Either way, blowing off the CO2 should fix it.

I will do a ten gallon water change. and recalibrate the probes. I will be in touch

Degas the effluent prior to adding it to the tank. A little cup with an airstone is sufficient.

Or run the effluent into your overflow to help it degass.

I have been running my effluent over a air stone. After seeing my friends tank setup I will run my effluent to my over flow box so it can fall and degass and also go through the skimmer as well. this has been all good advice thank you very much.

If I could ask another question? What happens if I were to get some salt water in to the bubble counter? When I let out the air bubble in the reactor it might have let in salt water into the line that goes to the counter.

If it backs up any further the regulator will most likely be rendered a paper weight if the bubble counter is on the regulator.

If its on the reactor it doesn't matter.

Glycerin is what you are supposed to use on a bubble counter but I always justed used tap water. I like the aquariumplants carbon doser regulator. No bubble counter needed. Once you get the thing set up you won't need a bubble counter anyways. It is just used as a reference point.
