Within the next 18 months I'll be moving (not far, the two houses are 8 miles apart). I want to make the transition as non-traumatic as possible so I'm hoping I can lay out my plan for you for you folk to find flaws.
What's being moved: A dozen large (3-12") Tangs, a 34" Gigas clam and a dozen lesser species.
They're moving from a 450/620 gallon to a 2100/2400 gallon setup. I thought I'd:
1. build and cure the new tank
2. 3/4 fill it with new water and an aragonite bed
3. dramatically step up the frequency of partial water changes in the old tank and use the retired water to help fill the new tank (bringing over all resident micro critters)
4. a few at a time move some of the LR over from tank to tank
5. move the residents and
6. finish filling with water from the old and add the old skimmer to the new system
All of this to take place over a 4 month move.
Please offer any improvements since I'm guessing!!!!
