Big Black Marks on Tang

I looked at pictures of all the common tang diseases(lateral line disease, black spot, ich, etc..) and these dont look like any I could find. Its tough to photograph, it kind of looks faded in the area circles but they almost look like bruises to me. In the circled area, if you took your pinky and made a mark with the tip, there are about 3-4 this size in this area. He now has a couple on the other side too, in different spots so Im worried about what this is. He is new to the tank and often hides between rocks so I thought it may be bruises from the rocks. He eats flake food, brine and nori any time I offer it to him and there is good flow in the 3x1.5' tank. I am upgrading to a 4' tank next month.

This does not look like disease but more like discoloration from stress. Your current tank is way too small for a clown tang and your future upgrade is still too small. These fish require at least 8 feet of swimming space, plus they get extreemly aggressive.
