View Full Version : Tricks to keep surface agitation down on a shallow tank?

I'm considering starting a 24x24x12 tank and I want to maximize top-down viewing. I want to make sure I have enough circulation, but I want to minimize the surface movement. I'm not worried about gas exchange because of the shape of the tank plus the sump and skimmer.

I'm thinking of using 2 relatively small pumps (150-180gph) on a closed loop with the outflow split into 3 or 4 outlets per pump to keep the water velocity low but still keep the overall circulation high. In combination with the sump return, it should be decent overall movement. I think any prop pump would direct too much upward flow?

Has anyone tried this before or have any other ideas?
