Ok I have looked for these things every where. What do I use? I have has 3 5 gal floods in the last month and both times I could have gotten to the tank to fix the problem but I didn't know. What sensors where do I buy them?

Neptune has announced their own water sensor not sure when available tho. Try Waterbug sensors.

You can also install a float switch in your tank if that triggers on it ill kill your return pump and no water gets to the floor.

Can I add this to my neptune breakout box? I'm looking for something I can attach to the apex. The float sensor is a good idea. That would have worked for past problem but this one last night was the skimmer over flowing. I guess I can add one to the top of the skimmer cup also

Also can u post a long to float switches that work with the breakout box please

Programming for a float sensor is not difficult add this line below to your pump outlet program.

If SwitchX OPEN Then OFF
X is the number of the switch on your breakout box.

This is assuming you have your float switch set correctly Down is Closed and up is Open

Yes you can also add a second float switch as well to your skimmer cup as well. If you do that then just add another line referencing the second switch as well..

Hope that helps
Mark

I think you can and in fact I just bought one myself. They are simple devices consisting of metal contacts spaced about 2" apart. When water spills it shorts the contacts (the switch will go from open to closed). Its the same thing internally happening as when you are closing a float switch. What I don't know is if the breakout box is sensitive enough to detect the closed state. I'll test it out next week when I get into the office. I believe the correct way to wire them is with one wire going to i1-6 (your choice) and another going to ground. You can wire multiple waterbugs to the same switch and monitor multiple spots around your tank and sump while only using up one switch on the breakout box. Keep in mind that pure water won't conduct electricity but tap water and saltwater are great conductors.

I saw a post a while back that accompllished this with adhesive backed copper ribbon, spaced a couple of inches apart on the floor, and hooked up to a breakout box. I liked the design/concept so much that I bought the ribbon. I just haven't found the time to use it. I intend to tape it to a substrate and drive screws through the tape. The screws will be my wire hook-up points.

I would wait for Neptune to release their system. They announced it several months ago so it should be coming shortly. You can email Neptune support to get an idea of where they are with it.

I only say this because even though building it out of water bugs or other sensors with a breakout box will result in an operational system, buying Neptune's turnkey solution should be much better all around. (By the way, I have water on floor sensors built out of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GRI-2600-Water-Flood-Alarm-Sensor-/130842800296?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e76d6b0a8 and it works perfectly)

Thanks will do. Did u connect IRS to the breakout box?

You can't connect the GRI sensors directly to a breakout box. You need a 12V DC supply and a reed relay to connect it up. I can post the circuit I used if you are interested. Terrence from Neptune just posted in another thread that the Neptune water sensor box is due out VERY soon.

Update: The Advanced Leak Detection Module is on the Neptune site. Not sure if they are shipping them yet...

you could simply have a line connected to breakout box, and have the wires stuck onto a thin piece of plastic, 1" apart and have the ends of wires slightly exposed, therefore when water contacts both of them, this would create your switch.

My waterbug system works very well. I did indeed need the waterbug head unit and a 12v power supply (from an old laptop). Then I wired it to my Apex BOB. I have 3 sensors all wired to the same input.
