Currently I have sump setup where chamber 1 which contains my skimmer, fills up, overflows into chamber 2 which allows the water to trickle down through bio balls and then into a connected chamber 3 where it returns to my tank.

What I am hoping to do is to remove the bioballs, throw in some live sand, live rock, a little micro algae some mangroves and a light and make more of a refugium setting. I can separate chamber 2 from chamber 3 so that it would over flow instead of trickle into. Is there any problem with removing all the bioballs at once and making these adjustments? Is there anything else I may need in my sump/refugium?
