My newly acquired onyx male never acclimated after I purchased this past Saturday. He has grown more lethargic on a steady basis. His female counterpart is fine. They have both been in a 55 gal. Tank with the following param:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
PH 8.2
79.5 deg F
Other inhabitants: 2 small damsels left from cycling, seem to be non issue.

He is on his side with labored breathing, losing equilibrium very slowly, getting worse, almost a goner...
I have tried:
Isolation
Super oxygenation
Running carbon
Added second protein skimmer
Supplemental filtration and flow
All within reason with focus on being non-intrusive but nothing helps even a little
LFS where I purchased the pair is closed mon and tues so they are no help
Anything else I can try not knowing what is wrong. Fish appears normal as far as color and slime coat, even eyes are fine, starting to get a bit white around mouth.
Only meds I have is some metronidazole by seachem.

Any help appreciated

It seems like you have done basically everything you can.
