Tomorrow morning I hope to be the proud owner of a 175 gallon bowfront!! I know what to look for in buying a used tank BUT, this tank had two overflow boxes. What should I look for when I get there? Cracked glass at the bottom where the bulk head fittings go???

Cracks all around. Chips on any edges of the tank. Scratches on the glass.

Have them do a water test on it for you, if it's not filled already.

Should I have them fill all 175 gallons? Lol

But my real question was, what do I look for when purchasing a tank with drilled overflow boxes? There's two overflow boxes in each corner. Do I need regular bulk head fittings for the bottom of the tank where the drain hoses connect?

I would have them fill it with a hose to do a water test. Check for cracks and scratches. You need bulk heads, most saltwater / reef fish stores will have them in stock.

I would just shell out the money for a new tank. You can always buy a "lemon," but the odds of this happening with a new tank is definitely not in your favor. GL.

Nothing wrong with buying used. Just ask alot of questions, look to see if bulkheads are in the overflows, you will want new ones anyway. Look at the scilicone, make sure its not dried out, push it with your finger it should be spongy. ask if there was ever copper in the tank.

Allegedly...

I'm not going to trust 100 gallons worth of water on hard wood floors to an unknown that can't stop smiling... I'd much rather have a new tank bust. JMO.
