I've been looking high and low for a skimmer that would really kick the crap out of a nano tank and I think I've found the answer. It's the JNS-WS1. I couldn't find any review of this skimmer so I decided I would post it here for those looking for a quality skimmer.

The quality build of this skimmer is impressive! I used to own the Bubble King Mini 200 and I will say the build quality is almost as impressive. Its very easy to take apart for cleaning and the parts fit perfectly.

here are a few pictures

New out of the box.

Slid the pump out of the main body of the skimmer, took all of 5 seconds.

Yes, it's a pin wheel! sorry for the poor pic quality, out of focus.

and finally it's kicking the crap out of the nano.

notice the muffler! it's so quit it's almost inaudible! the bubbles are fine and plentyful, very little micro bubbles as it's not broken in as yet! it's in my nephews tank as i'm still collecting all necessary equipment to start my sps nano. I'm really happy with my selection of a great nano skimmer!

one last pic to show quality of build

i would definitely buy this skimmer again! it's quiet, creates fine bubbles with no micro bubbles entering tank, skims great, and low power consumption. I can't believe this skimmer is such an unknown!

can you adjust the air intake or just the cup height?

Does anyone know what size tank the WS1 is rated for? Their website (http://www.jnsaquaria.com/2007html/products/view.php?CatId=17&Model=WS-1&lang=eng) doesn't have a lot of detail.

So Cal now has the VS-1: http://socaltropicalfishoutlet.com/catalog/shark-series-skimmer-p-1062.html

EDIT: which is a HOB. Nevermind.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger for my JBJ RL 30. Are you all still happy with the JNS-WS1?

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. What was your buying experience at SoCal fish? Only reason I'm asking, is that I saw some threads around the web saying that they didn't always have them in stock, and it could take months to get.

Thanks again!

I got mine relattively fast. Dont remember any issues, got mine a long time ago. No gurantee you'll get same experience. Why not call them before and ask an eta?

Just got off the phone with them! Spoke to a very nice guy, he said they have them in stock, and they'll ship wed/thurs!

You are gonna love the build quality! That skimmer is probably one of the best IMHO.

Agreed - skimmer is very quiet. Took me a month or so, but it's really pulling some thick skimmate now. Great for a cramped sump.

We have the same tank, and I am looking at this skimmer as well. Did you buy it in the end? and did it require any mods or tweaks to the tank? Thanks.

I have a very hard time believing that this little guy can handle a 90g tank.
Can anyone testify to the actual tank rating of this skimmer?

BadgeNC

I think it's the same as the Aquamaxx HOB-1 and rated for 75g.

Dimension : L 7.5 x W 3.5 x H 17 Inch
Pump(included): Shark 1.0
Pump power consumption: 11 Watts
Outlet size: 3/4 Inch
Minimum tank height 10-7/8"
Volume rating: up to 75 Gallons
Requires approximately 4" of clearance to remove collection cup.
Fits aquarium rims up to 3/4" thick.

I'm getting one to try on my 60g.

I did end up buying it. Had to remove one of the glass baffles on the right side, but it was totally worth it for a great skimmer! Highly recommended.

I've still got it as a backup on my 65 or hospital tanks

At what water level would this skimmer work best in? I've been reading anywhere between 7-11 inches.
Thanks....
