OK, it's not the best skimmer out there, but I needed a HOB for my 20H and this one came along at a very low price. Of course, by the time I got it it needed a little more work than expected so my "$55 by the time it's done" skimmer is up to almost $80. At least it has a brand new Acella pump on it now.
That wouldn't be that bad if I actually liked the skimmer. I knew going in that they weren't the best but I figured it should be plenty of skimmer for a 20 gal. The problem is, the tank is in the upstairs hallway, right outside my son's bedroom door, and it's loud enough to be heard through most of the house. It gets nice and quiet if I shut down the air, but then it isn't skimming anything. the noise seems to be coming from the pump itself, not the air intake. Is there anything that can be done?
