Im starting a 120G DT and am doing a DIY internal sump, How do i figure out how big to make it

my Tank is 4x2x2
my plan was take 11" x 22 1/2" piece of acrylic and bend it in half with a 90 degree bend, then on top cut 3/8" notches 1" deep and 3/8" apart and glue it into the left corner.

Will that be good enough?

If your acrylic fabrication skills are up to it, consider installing a beananimal drain system with a coast-to-coast overflow.

Silent. Simple. Failsafe.

The location I am putting the tank has no room for back clearance, that's why I'm going with the corner overflow with bottom drain. All access will be from the front and sides.

Thanks for the idea. I like it, just won't work with my current layout as to where I want the tank

Your overflow as described will handle at least 1000GPH which is plenty of flow for a 120. You could take the slots down to 1-1/4" for a little insurance factor.

That should be plenty big enough for a 120g tank. Just make sure you plumb it large enough to maximize the flow potential, probably at lease 1.5" drain and 1" return. That way you can get the flow to the sump you want without regretting it later. Or you can go with two 1" drains and a single return.

Just make sure your tank bottom isn't tempered glass, and I'm sure you already know this but make sure you cut the notches in the acrylic before bending.

Ah ha...well, that'll do it, then!!!

Guess I should have asked about potential restrictions, first, eh?

Lots to learn...lots to learn!!!
