Has anyone tried dosing Vodka in a Quarentine tank? Thought of it as being a helper for nitrate levels if 1 or 2 drops were added daily

:wavehand:

has anyone ever tried vodka on their QT?

In order to vodka dose, I believe you need a protein skimmer. If you are just QT fish, I wouldn't worry too much about nitrate issues in QT.

read sticky "Guide to setup a Quarantine Tank (QT)." in new to the hobby section. With QT less is better due to the simple reason - treatments. Meds will kill filtration system or interfere with additives or lost effectiveness or became deadly for Q fish etc. Small sponge air driven filter and WC are your best friends here.

To QT fish, nitrate is not the problem.

To isolate inverts, if you start with very low nitrate, it will take a while for nitrate to accumulate too high, depending on how much bioload. Generally, inverts that needs strong light may need low nitrate. 12 weeks fallow to make sure that ich is gone is the safest way.

There's no reason to even test nitrate in a QT. It is not a factor at all with fish. (CMA: at levels 80<ppm or so).
