View Full Version : Wierd Hitchhiker Ident?

Alright this guy has been in my LR since I bought it. Trying to figure out what it is and not having any luck finding it. Any Thoughts. This is as close a picture as we could get. My wife took the picture.

That's quite a good photo. The animal is a flabelligerid polychaete (sorry, no common name). What you're seeing are the bristles at the head end which the animal fans out then uses it's feeding palps - visible in the center - to spread strings of mucus over the bristles. They act as a fishing net, catching floating particles for the animal to eat. It's a harmless filter feeder.
