Fluval Edge 6g Nano Reef.

Kessel 250w Skyblue Pendant
two mr11 White LEDs to replace fluval stock bulbs
Fluval edge stock heater and filter
Timing unit for lights

That about sums it up, As far as stocking goes, I have an orange spotted goby and a fire fish in there. I might get rid of the firefish and go with a single false perc. Any other ideas of stocking?

As far as corals go, This is my first try with them so I'm not sure what to put in.

Pics?

This will be the tanks final resting place. In my parents living room.

Heater in the filter to save room.

Extra Kessel Pendant from my old 55g, This i'll attach to the back and direct into the top front giving enough light to grow the corals.

Here it goes!
One fire Fish, and one Orange spotted Goby. The plan is to add a peppermint shrimp or skunk shrimp as well.

Can i add more then one Goby in the same tank?

Cool tank. Just curious...did the tank cycle?

Samurai Jack 77

Reply, I did not "cycle" because I pulled live rock, and sand from my main tank. As well as the filter pad. So I dosed with prime and everything should be golden. Will check parameters once i get off work.

Question!

How much flow do i need for the corals?
And which Corals would work well in this tank?

Also, other stocking options with what I've got?
I was thinking a False Perc, and a pistol shrimp for the Goby.

I wouldn't put any more fish in there than those two.
One powerhead should be sufficient for that tank.
I think that you would like sps and lps. They require a little more care, but are much prettier. For a tank with this much potential, I would go with this. This is just my oponion.

Thanks for the advice! I'll research some corals. :) I can't even get a pistol shrimp?!

get mushroom corals! they come in lots of colors, are hard to kill, and are cheaper than a lot of other corals. they prefer lower flow. another good, cheap coral is pulsing xenia. their constant uniform motion is fascinating to watch. i would not add a cleaner shrimp because i think they get too big but the pistol will be great! you could get bumblebee snails to clean up extra food, they are very pretty. you could get some hermit crabs or flat crabs like emerald crabs too.
that's what i'd do!
good luck!

MP10 running at slowest speed is perfect for my edge . . . . but $$ I only have one because I took it from another tank I took down (it crashed due to power outrage). Prior to that I had two Hydor Koralia Nano's that I alternated on/off with a simple analog timer -- it worked fine.

Stocking just think small. I initially tried a firefish (I actually tried twice) but they didn't seem to thrive. I think it's too small or my current was too high. Either way I took them out and went with a Tail Spot Blenny and a Red Elongated Dottyback. All have been happily living in the tank for nearly 2 years.

A pistol shrimp would be fine. I had a little aptasia issue at the beginning and had a pair of pepermint shrimp in there for 5 months with out a problem (I eventually took them out because they were stealing the food from the corals I was target feeding). I really liked sexy shrimp in the tank, too bad the dottyback ate them (yes, I saw it eat one).

I have a mixed reef in the Edge. I have Zoos, hammer, a birdsnest, frogspawn, blast, duncan, and acan all thriving. I do have to prune to keep it all under control . . . Funny thing is that mushrooms and riccordia did the worst . . . there are some in there but they only survive.

Thank you so much for all the replies!
Alright, So I'll take out the fire fish and get something that would thrive better in the tank. :)

Squishifishi - I was just looking at what kind of snails to get. I'll try out those bumblebee snails. I have a few in my main tank.

Amutti - What kind of lighting do you use? Thats interesting about the shrooms. Is it cause of lighting or flow?
Atm i'm thinking of not adding any powerheads. Thoughts?

UPDATE:
I had to rework the rock cause the filter was pushing the sand around to much. The firefish still hasn't come out of hiding. I'm not sure if he is gonna make it. Though i did rescue him from a tank at the lfs that had a really mean tomato clown chasing him all over the tank. So i'll keep an eye on him for now.

The Goby seems to be doing great so far, he is pretty neat, my first time having one. He sits on a mound of sand and just watches the whole room. and then flees when anyone walks by. If I sit in front of the tank. he'll slowly waddle back out but if i move he will waddle back behind the rocks. So I just try to be as still as i can.

I think I'll be adding a pistol shrimp soon, and hopefully the goby will pair with him:)
I also added three little cleaner crabs. Red legged I think?

Also! The new lights have shipped so they should be here soon. As for the kessel, I still am not sure how i'm going to mount it for the tank yet. That might be the hardest part of this job. The back of the tank that houses everything is a plastic and I don't know how much stress it can take. The plan will be to glue a piece to the back, and clip the light onto it.

Pics!

Here is the new rock work to redirect the flow of the filter.

Here is the red legged cleaner crab. There are 3 of them in the tank.

Fts. I love how it looks like a perfect cube of life and beauty.
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/skaterjmg7/Fish%20stuff/photo2_zpsea07b217.jpg

Anyways that's all for now. I'll get pics up of the lights when they come, and I'll start looking into different corals, as well as finding a way to mount that darn kessel (hanging it isn't an option).

Custom lights . . . I think the zoos and the flow make it uncomfortable for the mushrooms

Oh ok. :)

Thats interesting. How do you feed corals?

Where did you get the sand? is it aragonite or silica based?

Aragonite, got it from the lfs.

Fts. The camera makes the light look much bluer then it really is. All pics are done with my iphone. haha.

Everyone came out to play once the new lights came on. I was secretly taking pictures from around the corner.

Here is the Orange Spotted Shrimp Goby.

And the Firefish!
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/skaterjmg7/Fish%20stuff/image6_zpsd17f3cc4.jpeg

Brand new addition to the tank! A Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp. I can't believe how loud it is when it snaps its claw! Sounds like a cap gun going off. Anyways. Put him the tank and he immediately started building a home. Hopefully the Goby will pair with him soon.

Ah nice! I like that kind of symbiosis!
How did you find the Firefish? Was it just hidden between the rocks or??

Samurai Jack 77
03/11/2013, 12:59 PM
It had somehow hiding in a tiny hole in the rocks. and wedged himself in. I've seem him go back to it a couple times. But when the lights come out. He comes out and plays in the current a bit.

I also just bought some mysis shrimp. as the goby hasn't eaten the pellet food yet.

I target feed using a really long eye dropper I picked up at the LFS. Your goby would probably appreciate some frozen mysis...

Its official! The pistol shrimp and the goby are best friends. Both chill in the cave. and the goby comes and and watches the room while the shrimp chills inside. It doesn't seem like the shrimp comes out much. But when i put in some mysis shrimp they seem to be gone by morning.

I have a Randall's goby and candy pistol shrimp combo in my edge and they are characters.
