Man, don't you read your own threads? Here's the other 3 threads you've started on magnesium.

Yeah I know you apologized in advance for making so many threads but I thought they'd have different topics or questions. You just ask the same thing over and over. Just bump one old thread instead of making a new one every day.

Are you doing periodic WC's? What salt mix are you using? What is your salinity? What are you using to check it? If you use a swing arm type hydrometer, it may be giving you erroneous readings, and you may not be adding enough salt mix to your make up water. I would get your SG to 1.026, using a refractometer (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9957) that has been calibrated with a 35ppt solution (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=18717&rel=1) and re-check your readings.
In all the years I've been in this hobby, with regular WC's using a "reef" grade of salt mix, I've never had to supplement Mg.
I would also check your testing procedure, if you don't mix each drop of the reagent 'A' individually, during that test, you're going to get erroneous results.

I use ocean water
My last water change was using LFS water as it was raining :-)

Why would the fact it was raining affect...nevermind, I probably don't want to know...

I usually use ocean water and I can't have storm water run off in my tank

If you make your own salt water you will probably no longer have low mg issues as the salt mix will compensate each water change. Take a look at salt brands and you can see what levels of various elements they build up too.

I'd be very suspicious of where you are collecting your NSW, or your test kit/procedure, since NSW has a Mg concentration of ~1285ppm, as noted in the article I posted.

That is what I was thinking. I think the best solution is to just stop using natural ocean water and just making your own with RO/DI water. You will have more consistancy and you will know exactly where your numbers should be after a water change. Just pick a brand salt. Instant Ocean is popular and if anything, is a great place to start your search for salt you like. The salt mixes contain everything your marine tank needs, in the concentrations it needs.

This forum has TONS of information, check this thread for a quick run down of how different brands of salt mix up.
