I have a 120 gallon tank, just starting out, first SW tank.

It will be filled in the next month, starting out with dry rock (50 lbs ) and 40 lbs of live rock to seed it.

No bio load, as it will take a month to cycle

Once it does stabilize it will be a slow process learning curve the first year, but I want to be set up right, so as my experience builds, and I build the tank into a reef tank over the next 2 years, I don't want to be limited on the purchases I make now

Says the skimmers is rated up to 300 gallon tanks

Thoughts before I pull the trigger on this ?

Possibly.

I'm running the Reef Octopus Diablo XS 160 on my 120gal.
The skimmer is really pulling out a nice dark, thick skimmate with a medium bio-load. (SPS,LPS, clams and 9 small/medium fish.)
If you would like to save about $175, I would recommend the Diablo XS 160.

Ok I hate to ask, this is my first SW tank, what's the use of one?

Thanks for the advice, I'd like to plumb everything in up front with the sump Etc in a few weeks
