I know the .08 Rox is the best but I was thinking of splitting a 5 gallon bucket with some buddies. Was looking at the larger or smaller particle carbon. Besides the dust issue, what's the main difference or pros and cons of the different carbons.

It's basically the amount of dust it has and the absorbtion factor... Rox 0.8 has the highest quality, the next one with minimal dust would be the second best... IME...

I have a dragon soul favia that I've had for a year that didn't start growing until I stopped using the rox8. On the other hand my baby's breath favia grows just fine either way. My softies seem to be doing better now too. I agree with Neal go for the second best one.

I don't like the rox .8 at all too small like broken lead pencils they go through the sponges. I use the seachem stuff it's like little round black fish eggs. And it's cheaper too

Me and a few friends just split a 5 gallon bucket of the small particle stuff...takes longer to rinse they said but its a step below the .08 Rox.

+1000 But I feel like since I paid for it I should use it up. I curse every time I have to change out my reactor media. I still find the little pieces of "lead pencils" in my tank and my TLF reactor is in my sump! Speaking of....I have zoa's in my tank that never grow. They literally have stayed the same number of polyps for 2 years. I wonder......

I use the ROX 0.8, and don't have any problems. I would avoid the lignite type, since this was found in the Toledo Zoo study to cause HLLE.

In regards to the peices of rox 0.8 found around, does anyone experiencing this use BRS reactors? (Thicker/denser sponges??)... I use these and rox, and I never experience this... Although I don't push the flow too much, only enough for a slow, steady tumble... Perhaps that is why...

no matter how much i rinse the large particle everytime i add it into my reactor my Koran starts showing HLLE. he does recover after a ton of vitamin enriched feedings but i will not use BRS carbon anymoe just be very careful if you have fish prone to HLLE
