So about 2.5 years ago... i bought a couple polyps of Fruit loop zoanthids... fast forward 2.5 years, I have a good sized colony but they look different now. In the beginning, the black circle around the mouth looked much bigger and the green ring was much thinner and looked more like a ring... now the green has grown more closer in toward the mouth(covers most of the oral disc) and the black circle(mouth) has grown much smaller. Googling, I can't find any other pictures that look like these... Does this mean I get to name my own zoanthids now? haha...

Go for it! One of the many reasons I love my z's & p's is the morphing that they do... different systems, different lighting, different parameters and POOF we have a slight change in the "looks" of the polyps...

What good would that do as to name it again after its already been named, so when said polyp goes to another reefers tank and morph's we call it something else again? LMAO this is one of the reasons why the name game is so screwed up with Z's and Ps.

Every one has different lighting schemes, parameters, environment in their tanks that causes said corals to morph or change a bit in terms of looks, be it spotting, sligthly different hue in color, some lines might become darker, lighter etc. But in the end its still the same freaking polyp. Many reasons why we have some many names for the same coral its not even funny.

which is why im not surprised that if you go to any ID site you see the same polyp or slight variation of the same polyp with a different name multiple times as everyone wants to have a polyp they named. LOL

Nothing directed to you OP just stating it in general

But feel free, the name game is so screwed up another name on a polyp that has been name several plus different names won't make a difference.
