I currently have a 75 gallon tank with a BH-2000 reef octopus skimmer and 6 tube t5 light. I have 30ish lbs of live rock and 3 corals. Tank has been neglected for awhile others then feeding and that's my own fault. I started to sale all of it but I think I'll keep it. Only issue is vermintid snails are rampaging and I have no clue how o remove them.

Also I have a 30 gallon long tank that I thought about moving everything to and putting my baby cichlids in the 75. What are your thoughts? My thinking is I could save $ with salt and RO filters and water. Downside is limited fish selection and less leeway for issues due to small water column. Plus side is less electric bill and less expensive equipment. I'm also wanting to go Led and though about a Kessel light.

I did just that, downsizing from a 125 to a 45 gallon cube.I wanted to reduce costs, while also stay in the hobby.I was able to fit the cube in my bedroom, while the 125 was stuck in a back bedroom.I downsized from 4 powerheads to 1,2 filters to 1,3 metal halide bulbs to 1.I now do a 5 gallon water change a week, compared to 15-20 gallon, saving a lot in salt.Maintenance is much easier,as well as the cost of chemicals for the corals,i.e. calcium, magnesium, and buffering agents.I now have money left for upkeep. The size and variety of fish were really never a downside for me,there are still plenty of cool and interesting small fish.I couldn't be happier.Good Luck.

Oh nice. My wife likes the cube tanks and so do I. I don't wanna spend more money on another tank but it's a strong possibility. I just don't know where to put my 30 gallon tank...

I was able to use the money from selling off my 125 tank, stand, and light to more than pay for my new tank,as well as use existing rock.I came out ahead moneywise.I have had better success with smaller, more manageable tanks.
