View Full Version : Cats and Reefs don't Mix

I just realized another reason why cats and reefs don't mix when I walked into the kitchen to find my cat mistook the brand new bucket of salt for a litterbox.

I hope he enjoyed his $60 bathroom break.

I think I may just donate him to the local aquarium as shark food.

Lol.. I have an old pic from 10 years ago of the wife's cat laying on the top of my old nano dangling his paw in the water. I'll have to dig that up and post it.

You could market that stuff as 'bio loaded salt' containing nutrient rich CP organics ideal for cycling new tanks. CP organics is cat poo btw..........

That just might work. I'm going to need a fancy name, like OrganicReef. And cats, I need a lot more cats...

No kidding my fat cat jumped in my 90 gallon when the lid was up for cleaning, scratched out two LEDs on my blue strip.

My idiot cat used to jump on top of the salt-mixing barrel every day and I would chase him off... One day, I had the lid off to add salt... He jumped right in and then instantly right out. There was more water in the room, down the hall, into the kitchen, then finally in the laundryroom where he hid than what was left in the barrel.

Cats hold a lot of water...

My cat can't reach anything. When he does I will feed him to the fish! He loves to sit and look. On the other hand my son has his FW tank in the dining room and the cat loves to get up on it when I'm gone. It sits in front of a mirror and every time I clean the mirror the next day it has splashes on it where the cat has put his paws in the 1" gap in the hood. He knows to not let me ever see him do it. The tank would look different with a cat skeleton in the bottom of it :)

My cat could care less about my tanks. He doesn't even like seafood...turns up his nose at any fish-flavored cat food, tuna, shrimp, etc. You can just see him thinking 'eww...you expect me to eat that???'

He was just trying to teach you not to leave big containers of salt open and unbagged so that they are exposed to air and moisture. Betcha won't do it again! :D

My cat likes to lay ontop of my mh light fixture I think for the warmth. He's never tried to touch the water but I'm waiting for the day I hear a loud splash lol

Years ago my cat actually got rewarded for his patience. He used to sit on the arm of he
couch just staring at thev fish - one time one must have jumped out. Snack time.

You have a cat powered automatic neck cleaner for your skimmer? I like it!

Just tonight my cat jumped onto the rim of the 110 gal I have filled in the garage for a water test. As I was petting her she took off towards the other end but lost her balance and went in. My wife still insists that I pushed her. I did no such thing. It's funny when a cat goes into a tank with only tap water. Not so much if it were the finished product.

Since I have been building this tank my one cat loves to take a loop around teh back side of the tank.

Look at this picture.

He goes up the ladder jumps up and walks around the back of the tank. I do not have a color/paper on the back yet and he looks through the tank and sees us on the other side.

The gap in the back is about a tad less as the sides.

My cats don't really watch the tank unless I'm sitting over there with them. But my ginger cat loves biting RO tubing and having water squirt all over him.

I've heard stories of people's cats eating nori, so I decided to see if mine would.
