My tank (72X20x21, 130 gal) has a single center overflow with three drain holes for 1" bulkheads and two return holes for 3/4" bulkheads. I'm planing on a Beananimal set up for the drains.

Is there any advantage to using a bushing and increasing the size of either pipe? It will still be restricted to 1" and 3/4" at the bulkheads. Or is a 1" adequate for this set up?

Are these valves adequate for my drains?

And these for the places I need ball valves?

like u said ur water is limited to the flow rate of what is the smallest part of the plumbing. so increasing the pipe size before and after the bulkhead will not help any. i have always used ball valves due to easy access from lowes or home depot but gate valves are more better when it comes to real precise rate.

i just had a discussion about this with another member as i was going to do the same thing as you. he suggested to increase only the open channel

Thanks guys!

Torino that makes sense to me. More room for air and water in the open channel should help to keep it quiet, though I think it will be very low flow through it anyway.

Read up on this site, he explains how the plumbing works with difference sizes. Bigger is better inside the overflow.
