Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and as well to this hobby. I recently got a bio-cube 29 and I had the process started by getting live sand. Today I went to the local reef store and bought some live Rock. Everything good so far right ? Well it wasn't long until I noticed that the live rock had a really small coral attached to it. The reef store failed to check the rock for hidden corals. My aquarium is about 5 days old I'm aware you are not supposed to have corals until the tank has cycled, but due to this situation I do now. I have no clue what kind of coral it is, but so far it seems like its doing ok. Can any of you identify this coral? If so please let me know what I can do to ensure its survival? Any help will be greatly received.

Considering that it has survived the handling enroute to the LFS from wherever, I figure you got a decency chance of pulling it through. Use it as a learning experience. Test, monitor and control your cycle as best as you can. I used a well known product to "expedite" the cycle process and I had a mild level of ammonia and quich transition to nitrate. You could QT in fresh salt and do water changes to keep it alive until your tank cycles as well. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. Is it normal for coral to close up at night? I will try to take a better picture.

That looks like a mushroom coral, it most likely will make it & proliferate.
