Right now I have two Koralia 1050 powerheads on a wavemaker and it seems like the flow is a bit low for my tank. I switched from a 75 to 90 about a week ago and the Koralia's were good for the 75. I just bought an Vortech MP40 and will receive it Thursday, per UPS. Will this be enought flow until I get another one? Or should I leave a koralia in there? I have seen videos of a MP40 on a 125 and looks like good flow. Thanks for all your input.

I have one MP40 and one 1050 on my 120. Would like to get another MP40 to run anti-sync but until the wife allows it in the budget this is what works. It does work too.

I have one MP40 and one 1050 on my 120.

Wow, I guess it's safe to say that one MP40 on a four foot tank will be sufficent enough. I will get another one soon. I want a 180 tank bad!

My 120 is 5 ft long. Just make sure to look for dead spots on the opposite side of the MP40

Think it will be okay on a four foot, or should I keep another koralia on the other side?

Only one way to find out. Try the MP40 by itself and see if you like the flow in your tank,if not toss the 1050 back in there.

It just depends on what corals you have where.

I never tried just the MP40. I just kept the 1050 in there because I thought I would need it.

I ran my 90 with one MP40wES it had decent flow, but def had some dead spots. I added a second and was much happier. It has a lot to do with positioning and rockwork IMHO. It's not like they were both running at 100% at the same time because I had them on anti-sync, but the ability to position that amount of flow from another angle helped me eliminate some of the dead spots.

This was my tank till i tore it down about 2 years ago, isold both mp40, now that i have the bug again and rebuilding my tank i only have one mp40 with 2 koralias, once i get another mp40 i will take out koralias, mp40 altought more expensive, are much nicer on the eye, jeje

i have 2 MP10W's running in my 75g with the return flow. i have to keep the 10W's at 50% because any more is too much flow for my tank. i would imagine your MP40 and korilas should be sufficient enough.

+1 on the dead-spot prevention

i have a 90g with one MP40Wes on one side and a Koralia on the other. In my set up i deffinitly needed more than just the one MP40 due to dead spots on the other side of tank. The Koralia will have to do untill i get my 2nd MP40.

You will get dead spots on the opposite side. I have 2 mp40's on a 75g. One at full blast will get to about mid tank. I had a koralia Evo 1400 on the other side but it wasn't enough flow. Definitely go with 2 if money allows. Are your plans to have sps?

I have two Koralia 1050's with a wavemaker that I could use on the opposite side until I get my second MP40. I wanted to sell them so I could put it towards another MP40.

Only have a few sps as of now, not really into SPS type corals. Most of them are LPS and softies.

That would work. It's just a question of looks. If you don't mind looking at the koralias in the tank then stick with it. I personally like the low profile of the mp40's. That's why I got rid of the koralia 1400.

My 120 reef has been doing great with a single MP40 only for the last 2.5 years. Lots of coral and lots of growth. I put mine in the center on the back glass under the overflow.

Thats a very good idea, the only problem I have is my overflow is bulit in the center of the tank. Damn....

I'll put some pictures of my setup when I get off work.

For the first year, I had it on the right side glass in the middle. Seemed to work well but not as well as back center. Just start with one and see how it goes. You can always add another. That was my plan but never needed it.

Beautiful tank Brandon. All you have is a single MP40 in the back? What setting do you have it on at what maximum power and return pump to you have? The reason I ask is I was wanting to do that as well but I called Vortech and the kid there told me to put it on one side and supplement with the 1050. But looking at your tank it still makes me want to do it. lol

I keep it on reefcrest with a max of about 90% intensity.

The MP40 at max setting is 3500gph so that alone is more flow then the hydors. As far as enough flow I would say yes unless you are keeping SPS then you will want more. I have a MP60, Tunze 6215 and a Tunze 6205 on my 125g and I think I need more flow!!

I would use another powerhead on the other side until you can buy another mp40, I tried one on my 90 but the flow wasn't very good, dead spots you know?

I just got an mp40wes and an mp10wes on my 75. I think 2 mp10s would be plenty. My setup is a bit much, they are running anti sync and dialed down to about 50%

I have two mp40W Es on either side of my 90 and the only problem I run into is the flow in the middle of the tank is so strong it moves all the out of the middle. Both run around 40-70%.

I've got one on my 90 and it is plenty, but I have a very open rock structure. Mine is on the left wall at the back of the tank, so it blows across the back from left to right (none of my rock is touching the back glass) and the flow returns across the front of the tank right to left. This plus a return pump on a seaswirl is plenty in my tank.

I'd think you'd be good with just one. I have only 2 MP10's on my 150 at 100% reefcrest and it's just enough. I'd have to imagine one on a 90 and you'd be rockin. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/26/8e6uvybu.jpg

I heard that an mp10 would not work on my 90 gallon tank due to thickness. Did you make yours work or did it work right out of the box?

That's what they say, but both mine stuck fine right out of the box. Now that's not to say that an MP40 wouldn't stick better, because it would, but the MP10 stuck fine. I've never had any issues with them falling or anything in the year that I've had them. I recommended them to a friend as well on his 120 and they're fine on his as well. They'd stick better on a smaller tank with less thick glass obviously, but like I said I've never had one issue.

Any idea if an MP10 would sync with an MP40?

As long as theyre all wireless etc Im pretty sure they would all sync together.

You will love it. When you install it, you may have to move the dry side ever so slightly while it's running to get the alingment just right. Otherwise you may hear some excess noise. I stuck my ear to the glass and slightly moved the dry side around until the noise went away. You want the two halves to be centered properly to eachother.

I seen someone talking about that on another thread awhile back, so I kept that in mind. Im pretty pumped! LoL
