Does anyone have any success stories for keeping these? I was considering getting one, I know the need to be spot fed regularly, but have a lower survival rate? I searched and found some people that said high flow was better, some that said low flow was better.

I have both goni and alveopora (sp) down lower in the tank, moderate flow.

for feeding, I actually use the detritus from my sump. they love it!

Which variation do you have and how long have you had it? Are you spot feeding anything else?

I also have a couple alveos. One is branching and have had it a year or so- grew a new head (colony) since then. It is on the bottom moderate flow and light and dont spot feed it a thing. Also picked up a justin credible alveo of the encrsting type. Doing great in same location, etc.

The Diver's Den at Live Aquaria has a metallic green one that I'm on the fence about getting...

I'd try one from puppy center for like 20 bucks before jumping up to dd. then if it does well, get a second!

mine are both the non branching type

Good point Collin, thanks for the advice, that's exactly what I'm going to do!

I have a couple flower pots that I've had for several years now. One Red and one metallic green. I've never once spot fed mine, and probably never will. The red one I got with only 2 polyps on it, is now the size of my fist. From my understanding and reading from some various experts on Goni is that the red goni can be placed higher in the tank and take on more light. I have it about midway up my tank under 250w MH. As for my green Goni I have it on the sandbed as from my understanding they can't handle as much light. On a side note, I switched to LED for a period of about 9 months. During this time the growth in my Red Goni was completely stunted and the red very faded. Once I switched back to MH it exploded again with growth and retained all of it's color again.

I also have both - and I do spot feed once a week reef roids.

both have been doing great.
my goni is now 2 yrs old and is growing.
My alva is 6 months old looking great.

I have also fed phyto in the past.

IMO bottom med flow and in an established aquarium. Don't move them often the goni's are delicate

Neon red Goni and a whacky blue/red/green neon goni in my tank...both thrive with full extension.

PC has ORA Red Goni, huge colonies, for like 150$ each. Expensive but gorgeous.

I picked up a red goni at the CTARs conference back in Oct. and it's doing quite well in my nano, on the bottom, under a BoostLED Par30 bulb - it's even on the edge of the tank and not getting as much light as it could. I haven't spot fed it either. When I bought it the vendor told me that this variety was more hardy than some of the others that we used to see years ago. I was nervous about getting it, but it's doing well and looking beautiful.
