This weekend I am (probably) purchasing some LR from a local person who is breaking down their tank. What's the best way to transport the LR? We're talking maybe a 40 minute ride home.

Go to HomeDepot they have those plastic totes for storing 'junk' in during spring cleaning. Get that with a lid.

I would put a LARGE trash bag inside it (double) with the rock inside it with water to keep it wet and paper towels.

Yeah a bit of die off. Just do not go by firehouse subs and eat.

Tubs or totes, buckets, anything like that. Using tank water is fine, but wet newspaper (paper towels tend to stick or fall apart) is easier and much lighter. GL

It can live nicely in thick wet newspaper, no problem. Make sure it's wet with salt water, not fresh.

5 gallon buckets with lids work great. Anything larger is difficult to pick-up. Ice chests work great for large rock or long moves, but they are heavy when full of rock and water.

When I did it, I used a rubbermaid type bucket (didn't line it or anything). He wouldn't give me any water, but luckily there was a store nearby that sold premixed saltwater. Bought 5 gallons, dumped it in, and away I went. Wasn't a far ride, but I felt much better having most of the rock covered in water. On a related note, it turned out to be a great deal. When I asked he said it was around 10-15 pounds worth. When I measured it at home, it was 27!
