Hello everyone, im new to reef central and plan on being here for a long long time! im already in love with this. anyways, i have a 27 gallon marineland cube that i started on saturday with ro/di water from bulk reef supply 5 stage filter, im sitting a 1.02 s/g at exactly 80 degrees according to two different thermometers. anyways, i have a green spotted puffer that im slowly transitioning to the full marine life. my tank consists of 40 pounds of fiji pink live sand and a single 8 pound live rock that i picked up from the LPS. Well i just bought a test kit for marine and according to the results, seem to show that my tank has already cycled through the amonia to nitrite and through the nitrate cycle. im just looking for opinions from my picture attached if these results are true and my tank has somehow miraculously cycled in 4 days or its too soon for the tests to be true. ps i even tested it twice to make sure the results showed true lol any input is appreciated!

I'm guessing it's the opposite, your tank hasn't even begun the cycle...but I will let someone else chime in.

I only know this because I just went through the same thing myself...still going through it actually. I'm using Dr Tim's Ammonia and One and Only...look it up. I'm pleased so far.

Read the sticky above on how to start a tank. You've got some problems. You're about 20-odd pounds short of rock, and there's no telling how live the sand is. The fish should be in qt right now, where he won't be exposed to an ammonia spike.

If the lr you got from the lfs was cured and wasnt out of the water very long you may not see much of a cycle. But i agree you are gonna want more rock.

alright yea ill do that, and ive had the fish for about 6 or 8 months now in a smaller different tank and he's healthy as can be, wasn't planning on putting him in for a while

If the rock was all live rock, then yes, it is possible the tank is already cycled. I set up a new tank with all live rock from another of my tanks. I had a very short cycle...under one week. Best way to check is to chuck a piece of deli shrimp in the tank. If already cycled, you should get a small ammonia spike that is quickly turned to nitrates.

And I agree that one 8lb rock is not enough for a reef tank. I would get, at least, 20lbs more of rock. The more rock the better as it will increase the amount of bioload your tank can support. Do you have a sump? If you don't want all the rock in the main tank, you can throw some in the sump.

looks like your reading all zeros to me..... hard to really tell shades of color from a dark pic. not that i know anything, but if it had cycled you would show nitrates, unless it cycled and you did a water change right after.....

I agree with surgy... I just went through my cycle and at one point, early on, I was surprised that everything read 0... After a while I saw the nitrates go up and looked up what was happening...
