The pics are of I believe zoanthids growing on a plastic replica of an aligator skull... I want to cut some of them away (the taller ones on the sides) and start more frag plugs... But what is the best way to remove these or cut them away from the plastic as not to harm the coral...?? :worried:

I would use a razor, cut them as close to the base as possible, or ever take plastic with them. Superglue where you want them.

I have used razor and dremal. Either way I always disclaimer use eye protection and close your mouth while doing so. I prefer to use the hand held razors with an angled blade. If you don't care about the skull dremal and chisel. Let us know how it works. Oh and you tube it. Lots of great videos.

Since you note that the skull is plastic, that gives a few more options, One is to go under a few of them and cut them loose, plastic and all, with a sharp exacto.

A dremel cutting tool from underneath to break loose pieces of plastic comes to mind too.

I'd suggest a Fein-type tool, but I don't think I'd want to subject them to the vibration.

I have had success with simply making a clean slice with a razor around the polyps I am intending to remove and carefully scraping a thin layer of contact surface up with them. They seemed to be fine out of the water for several minutes. Key was using super glue gel, not liquid. It's important to not damage the base of the zoanthid polyp but they seem like a pretty hardy coral.
Thats a nice colony of zoas.
