Anyone get a brown residue left over in your containers at water level?

Because of its high calcium and alkalinity, you are probably seeing calcium precipitate. I will sometimes get precipitate at the bottom of my containers if I don't mix it in cold water which helps control the binding of the calcium with alkalinity.

Interesting...I only mixed 5 gallons in a white bucket and started with water at 60 degrees. The residue was at the top.

brown residue sounds more like Reef Crystals.
I will get a whitish tan residue on occasion with coral pro salt which is Ca Carbonate as mentioned above. Red Sea actually recommends mixing cold (like you're doing) and limiting the aeration time to reduce this.

Maybe they changed the formulation. I used it for 6-8 mos and had a ton of brown crud built up to the bottom of my tank and some floating in the water. A guy at the LFS said they had the same problem and it was a clay anti caking agent that they would just break off with a hammer every so often.
Plenty of people use IORC, so I have to assume it isn't harmful to fish or corals, but it was a pain to clean. Switched to Coral Pro and have been happy.

The residue at water level could just be some algae forming. Doesn't look like a precipitant from the water.
