Just picked up a beautiful Tahiti Maxima and when the lights are off i can see the shell. When lights come on it expands past the shell. Is this normal?

Sounds normal to me.
I would be worried if the clam was closed up and the lighs were on.
No pictures ? :)

Beautiful clam.
Looks perfectly healthy to me. Its a good sign to see the white around the top of the clam and along the edges. New growth.

once he gets accustomed, night won't be so closed, at least in my experience. and it is a beauty!
