I have a Reef Octopus HOT Skimmer. Can I use the overflow side to house my beneficial algea?

It could be done, especially if it's on a fairly small system. Your going to want to look out for it slowing the amount of water leaving the skimmer as it will raise the water level in the bubble chamber, and change the skim-mate consistency.

Thanks for the reply!
I guess I should have given more info. It's a new tank, 35 gallon Hex. 2 clowns, one brittle star, 1 coral shrimp and a few snails and hermits. We have a few filter feeding corals two.
The macro algea is starting to look unsightly in there and I would love if I could "hide" it in the Skimmers overflow. I am thinking that would also give the Pods a safe place to grow and populate.
