Not enough room in my overflow to connect return plumbing and decided to run my returns up the back of the tank(behind overflow) but I've already drilled the overflow. What are my options. I was thinking of installing bulkheads but they need to be plugged to prevent draining

You can for sure plug your bulkheads, I bought a used 150 tank that only had 1/2" returns (very small) and i plugged them along with the 1" drains that are on the bottom of the overflow. This was done a year ago and I have had no problems at all. I did plug the top and bottom of the bulkhead just in case.

There are a couple ways to do this. Either get a plug sold in the plumbing section at lowes or Home Depot and use pipe tread tape so there are no leaks or what I would do. Thales a piece of black plastic or acrylic and glue/weld it from the back side. This will be more pleasing to the eye.
