I indulged a little and bought a 14lb piece of liverock at a lfs last week and qt'd it right away. I have some nice pieces but this one was spectacular. Not anymore...
I came home today after being gone for 24 hours to find the qt tank solid white. The circulation pump was dead and so was everything else. Everything had crawled out of the rock and was dead dead dead.
a mantis laid on its side lifeless
more kinds of worms than I could count
all 7 clams dead
sea cucumber dead...
etc., etc., etc..........
This rock was loaded with life and now it smells so bad even after soaking and swishing around in a 5gal bucket in new saltwater for 2 hours...
Is there anyway to salvage the rock or do you think it would be too toxic no matter what I do now??
what an expensive mistake at $9/lb...
