Just an FYI

Bad luck this week end with a QT tank.

Had a little family reunion this weekend for the holiday and accidently unplugged the heater for a transfer tank. Tank had a purple tang, neon dottyback and 2 black clowns.

Transfer tank was in the basement on the concrete. Water temp dropped down to 55 degrees by the time the mistake was discovered.

Results...

2 dead clowns, dotty back was lifeless but recovered when temp got back to normal. And the purple tang... swimming around like nothing changed still begging for food and looking lively at 55 degrees.

Lethality generally begins at 62 downward, though rock and sand may moderate it by holding prior temperature, and size of fish's body may help. Lethality also begins at 85 upward, so at 80, you have far more wiggle room downward than up.

So sorry to hear. THat's disheartening.

Wow 55, one time my tank went down to 69 and problems started, did not lose any fish but corals did not like it, specially sps
